Iceland has so many amazing campsites, so it is rather difficult to choose between them. Therefore this article will help with the choosing by highlighting three campsite gems In the South Coast of Iceland. First, of course, Úlfljótsvatn has to be mentioned.
Úlfljótsvatn
Úlfljótsvatn has been the home of Icelandic scouts for over 80 years. It is also a campsite that is open to the public & has all the necessities. Free wifi, electricity, hot & cold running water, playgrounds & different activities for only a small price. Activites such as an obstacle course, folf, archery, and kayaking. It is family and animal friendly. It is also free for children aged 12 and under. A small fun fact about Úlfljótsvatn, the lake itself, is the second coldest lake in Iceland, the coldest lake being Þingvallavatn, located in Þingvellir National Park.

Þingvellir
Þingvellir is an Icelandic national treasure due to its history, the annual parliament was held there from the year 930 until 1798. It is the first National park in Iceland. The nature there is also incredibly beautiful, and definitely worth a visit, both for locals and tourists. Þingvellir also happens to include a nice camping ground. The camping spots are all within walking distance from the Þingvellir National Park service center. At the service center, there is general information about the park itself, its history, and nature available for all. Including information about other places of interest in the area. It is also worth mentioning the cafeteria and a small souvenir store which is also located at the service center. Activities available in the National Park are things such as an interactive exhibition, walking routes, and snorkeling, among others.

Vík í Mýrdal
Last but not least there is Vík in Mýrdal which is the southernmost village in Iceland, Vík campsite is located only a kilometer from the center of Vík. They offer; electricity, toilets, hot & cold running water, showers, wifi, and a dining area. Can accommodate up to 250 people in tents, cabins, and caravans. A washing machine & a tumble dryer are available for a small price. Grocery stores are all within walking distance, along with cafés and restaurants. Reynisfjara is just about a 10-minute drive away from Vík, which is a beautiful yet dangerous black beach. Be mindful when visiting, and obey what the signs say but do enjoy the view though.
